1. ZADIE SMITH

The first item profiles Zadie Smith, one of Britain's most successful new young writers. Smith, still in her mid twenties, has written a best selling first novel "White teeth", which is soon to become a television series. Smith of mixed white English and Jamaican parentage has set her book in London - following the stories of the children of a mixed marriage and friendships with other members of ethnic minorities.



2.UNDERWATER ARTIST

The film maker and artist Nick Turvey recently travelled to Mozambique to take part in an environmental project. Turvey was artist in residence to a venture studying the fishing operation of a community, which has managed to create a sustainable operation and protect the health of the coral reef. Turvey worked sketching underwater for a series of pictures, which will display the health of the reef to the wider public.



3.THREE CHOIRS FESTIVAL

The report on Europe's oldest music festival, the Three choirs festival choir rotates between the cathedral cities of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester. This year the event was held in Hereford. We feature interviews with the musical director and festival organiser, with participants and see a rehearsal of the opening piece Haydn's "The Creation"




4. THE FUTURE OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS

We look at the research work being done to enhance on-line communications – including creating on-line conference rooms. These utilise cameras set on computers to create the illusion of participants being in the same physical space. We also report on the creation of virtual people - digital representations of humans which will be able to interact in cyberspace and be used by banks and other on-line services to "humanise" their services.



5. JEWISH MUSIC

Britain's Jewish community recently celebrating its musical heritage in this year's Jewish music festival - five weeks of events in venues across London ranging from synagogues and large scale concert halls to little clubs. Our film features events at the Bevis Marks Synagogue and performances by and interviews with members of Burning Bush and Va Voy.
