As someone who has long appreciated the tremendous levels of creativity in post-bop Norwegian jazz, I have been struck by the range of activity evident in the best of Norwegian jazz and improvised music today – a range much evident in this year’s festival. However, I have also had occasion to ask myself, not so much how much of what is happening today is really fresh, but rather, how much of what is happening today – such as what I heard from the Håkon Kornstad Trio might remind us that, in art as well as life, what goes around has to come around.

And what better setting to ask how fast does time move in Paradise, than at Molde, the place where – as the festival advertisement rightly says – music meets nature?
