Thy body rests on sheets of which I own -
I cannot take my eyes away from it.
Thou art the lacking jewel of my crown,
Though has my crown no place where jewels fit.
Thy noble nature is of other kind;
Much finer than my simple crown has earned;
Too worthy to enrich the woeful mind
In which thou, gemstone far too long hath yearned.
I have to know: Why are the bridges burned
That led me to thy delicate amore?
Why have I not from previous matter learned
That I shall not such costly gems adore?
Please go away, and leave my soul alone,
Or give such love as I to thee have shown.
