Bittersweet pop, melancholic singer/songwriter, rock/pop, and so forth. There have been lots of attempts to describe this band, but no one have yet been able to settle down their opinion on one specific genre.
That is the beauty of Zymphelia. They're fluent and versatile, and are not tied down by others expectations. This is how they keep surprising their fans, and where they find the strength to keep it up. In the freedom that the music provide them.
With the band consisting of five completely different musicians, they find inspiration from bands like Damien Rice, Ani Difranco, Tool and Dream Theatre, and create music with elements of rock, folk, blues, jazz and pop.
Despite their modest location, in a small city in the nothern parts of Norway, they have still reached way beyond all expectations, playing at festivals in Sweden, at The Cavern Club in Liverpool and in front of over 2500 people as a warmup band before EuroVision Songcontest in Alta.
As young as they may be, Zymphelia have already reached more goals than they could ever imagine, and they will keep going strong as long as the music continues to give them new and exciting experiences.

Past the box - Zymphelia
Produced by lydarkitekten.no, Alta, 2007.
This is Zymphelia's first album, and was created during a 9-month period in 2007. Most of the material on the record is composed and recorded by Charlotte H. Pettersen, Maiken H. Elvemo and Lene S. Jørgensen, but Rikard T. Holst also accomanied some of the songs at the end of the process. Ensemble Nord have also contributed to the album with their violins, cellos and violas on most of the songs, all composed by pianist Nils A. Mortensen.
It's an album consisting of only 7 songs, some old ones, some re-makes and some new ones, so it's a good mix of Zymphelia's material, and is in ways both a start of something new and the end of something old for the band. The album name "Past the box" came from the feedback Zymphelia have recieved on their music over the years. Comments like "You break all the rules of music, and you make it work!" inspired the band into choosing "Past the box" to be the name of their very first "baby".
The band have been showered with good reviews on the album, also by main editor of Altaposten, Rolf Edmund Lund, who gave them four eyes on the dice, followed by lots of good criticism.
