The acoustic folk quartet Gadarene Wine was assembled in the Summer of 2010 when four musicians witnessed a rather loathsome folk concert in a basement bar in Oslo. It was at that very moment, when the curtain was drawn, that the four friends made the pledge to bring back folk music where it belongs: Under the name Gadarene Wine and they started to put some tunes together.
A short month later the band played their debut concert at the Elvelangs festival, one of the biggest culture events along Oslo's riverside, with blessings from the Oslo City Council. Thousands of soaked wanderers received their first impressions of Gadarene Wine's watery tunes, and the following week the quartet played to a packed crowd at MIR Café. The band's demo-cd's were soon sold out and the band posters stolen.
Since then Gadarene Wine have held concerts all around Oslo and in January 2011 they went on their first tour out north. The band expects their first record release to be in the Summer 2011.
Gadarene Wine's acoustic songs balances between different genres of folk, blues and pop and nodding towards Irish ballads, americana and darker corners of the Norwegian folk scene. Lyrics play as much a key part as do the collaborations of the musicians.The artists backgrounds are varied and this pools the sounds into a quite the genre-pot.
The four members handle guitar, banjo, violin, bass, piano, melodica, harmonica and drums, all with equal ease. Gadarene Wine is a band with broad appeal that delivers solid perfromances both at festivals and intimate café corners, with oil lamps and well made wine to compliment the experience.
