Hailed as repentant Cinderella

Norwegians applauded the fiancee of Crown Prince Haakon on Thursday for confessing to a wild past before her wedding on Saturday and rated her well-suited to be Norway's queen.

Apologized for "dissolute" past

Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoeiby, Norway's future queen whose colorful past has raised a few eyebrows ahead of her marriage Saturday to Crown Prince Haakon, offered an emotional apology for any misdemeanours.

HRH Crown Prince Haakon

Born 20 July 1973 at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. Second child and only son of King Harald and Queen Sonja.

The bride:

Miss Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby

Born 19 August 1973 in Kristiansand, Norway. The youngest child of Marit Tjessem and Sven Olav Bjarte Høiby. Her official title as the Crown Prince’s wife will be announced after the wedding ceremony.

Oslo Cathedral

The Cathedral, where Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby will be married on August 25th, was built in 1697.

HM King Harald V, Norway - father of the groom

He was the first prince born in Norway for 567 years and became Crown Prince on 21 September 1957 when his father acceded to the throne.

HM Queen Sonja - the groom's mother

Sonja Haraldsen, a commoner, became Crown Princess Sonja when she married Crown Prince Harald in 1968.

HRH Princess Märtha Louise, Norway

Born 22 September 1971 at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. First child of King Harald and Queen Sonja. She is sister to the groom.

The bride's family

Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby's familiy consists of parents, step-parents, two broterhs, one sister and four nieces and a nephews.

Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen, born on 9 June 1930, is sister of King Harald.

Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner (b. 12 February 1932) is sister of King Harald and Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen.

B. 25 May 1966 in Leide, Netherlands, and grew up in the Hague. Maiden name: Petra Laurentien Brinkhorst.

Prince Philippe, Duke of Brabant, Belgium
