With the WSC in 2011, Oslo will for the fifth time gather the world’s ski elite for a championship. World Championships have been held in Holmenkollen in 1930, 1966 and 1982, and Winter Olympic Games in 1952.
Every year since 1892, there have been Ski Jumping competitions in Holmenkollen national arena.
Having been rebuilt or reconstructed 18 times throughout history, the new and spectacular Holmenkollen arena was opened in March 2010 and is currently being finalised for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2011.
Compact Venue
The new Holmenkollen national arena, comprising the Holmenkollen HS 134 hill, the Midtstuen HS 106 hill as well as the Cross-Country stadium, is a compact World Ski Championships venue in the true sense of the word. The three competition venues all lie in close proximity to each other, surrounded by the Cross-Country tracks which provide many scenic views towards the venue, the city and the fjord.
The entire Holmenkollen arena is being rebuilt and upgraded to host the 2011 Championships. In addition to new Holmenkollen Ski Jump, a new normal hill is under construction in Midtstuen, along with five smaller recruitment hills. The ski trails and Cross-Country stadium are being rebuilt and improved as well.

How to Get There
The distance between downtown Oslo and Holmenkollen is approximately 9 kilometres, and it takes 20 minutes to go there by car.
During the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, shuttle buses will be available to accredited members of the media to and from the city center and Holmenkollen (next to the IBC/MPC).
The buses depart from two transportation hubs, one at the main media hotel Clarion Royal Christiania and one at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel at Holbergs plass.
There is also a public subway/tram to from the city centre to Holmenkollen. Part of the stretch is currently under reconstruction, but the entire route will be opened for ordinary service in December 2010.
